Common Sense for Uncommon Times - Fair and Balanced

Random, occasionally rambling thoughts with links to interesting, scandalous, or partisan news of the day.

Fair and Balanced
common sense indeed. Living Heroes
We owe the liberty and freedom we take for granted to the enlisted men and women in the armed forces. They sacrifice family, ease, and even life laboring in service to all of us. The least we can do for them is honor their devotion with dignified pay scales, decent education for themselves and their children, and reasonable compensation for service away from their families and death on the battlefield. Flag waving politicians who praise the troops on one hand and cut their pay and benefits with the other should be deeply ashamed of themselves.

Nuclear blinders
If the president could pronounce nuclear I might have two or three seconds worth of hesitation before I lit into him for criminally negligent efforts to protect the American people. That, unfortunately, isn't the case. He not only can't pronounce the word, he's unable to separate real threats from the vaporware of North Korean bluster. The real threat to us is from unguarded Russian stockpiles and sloppy record keeping.

There is no combination of nuclear weapon and terrorist that can't find a better delivery mechanism than an ICBM to threaten the homeland. Shipping containers. Mules in the Arizona desert. Tankers. Civilian airliners. All are perfectly simple ways to get nuclear weapons into the United States, and exactly ZERO of them are subject to interdiction from missile defenses. Bush's budget priorities are 180 degrees off course and doomed to both failure and ridicule. The end of his administration and his foolish reliance on missile defense to protect America can't come soon enough. We need a President who understands the real threat enviornment and who will act to defend America, not to prance around a carrier deck for PR purposes.

George, bring it on baby, cause you're going to LOSE and it can't come soon enough for American patriots.

An Interesting Day: President Bush's Movements and Actions on 9/11 A detailed chronology of a day in the life of a clueless leader, not a fearless leader as he would have us believe. Good topics for conversation with the 9/11 investigators.

The Memory Hole > 5-Minute Video of George W. Bush on the Morning of 9/11 In light of the President's unconscionable use of 9/11 video as a campaign prop, I thought it only fitting to remind people of what our "heroic" President Bush actually did in the moments after he heard that a second plane had crashed into the WTC. There's no cartoon thought bubble in the video, but I can imagine him saying to himself, "shit, shit, shit, this is what they told me was going to happen and I spent all last month at the ranch. I blew it."

A truly Biblical Constitutional Marriage Amendment Forget the wimpy anti-gay FMA. Let's go for the full bore no-divorce, pro-concubine, incest-fostering Old Testament Amendment. The only thing I'd add is that no public servant could have violated any terms of the Amendment and remain in office. It's See Ya Later time for the Republican adulterers and divorcers from the Impeachment Era.
