Common Sense for Uncommon Times - Fair and Balanced

Random, occasionally rambling thoughts with links to interesting, scandalous, or partisan news of the day.

Fair and Balanced
common sense indeed. Living Heroes
We owe the liberty and freedom we take for granted to the enlisted men and women in the armed forces. They sacrifice family, ease, and even life laboring in service to all of us. The least we can do for them is honor their devotion with dignified pay scales, decent education for themselves and their children, and reasonable compensation for service away from their families and death on the battlefield. Flag waving politicians who praise the troops on one hand and cut their pay and benefits with the other should be deeply ashamed of themselves.

Bush's PR Problem (washingtonpost.com)
It's not that I enjoy kicking someone while they're down, but my essential patriotism bubbles to the top when someone as sharp as Fareed Zakaria highlights the core emptiness of the Bush era. I'm proud of this country, our history, our values. Bush has devalued and wasted our legacy and our potential. Four more years of his mismanagement and we'll be the banana republic he and his supporters are trying to create. Respect is hard earned and easily squandered. I hope the mess he is creating clings personally to him and not to the nation he is abusing.

Okay, I've been busy opening a restaurant so I've had to dump Dean duties and abandon blogging for awhile. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy a good editorial or a nicely crafted idea. Here's a sure winner for the Terminator. Smart Tax Laws Would Put More Money in California's Pocket
